How to set up a fixed IP address on windows Vista

These instructions will also work on XP,Vista & Windows 7.<\/p>\n

  1. Click your Start button<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. In the search box type cmd<\/strong> and press enter.<\/li>\n
  3. You should now have a black box on your screen.\"How<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. Type ipconfig<\/strong> and press enter.<\/li>\n
  5. A lot of text will appear on the screen.<\/li>\n
  6. If you connect wirelessly locate Wireless LAN adapter Wireless<\/strong>
    \nwrite down the following information<\/p>\n

    1. \u00a0IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
    2. Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
    3. \u00a0Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
    4. \u00a0IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
    5. Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
    6. Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. If you connect via a cable locate Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:<\/strong>
        \nwrite down the following information<\/p>\n
          \n
        1. \u00a0IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . .<\/li>\n
        2. \u00a0Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n
        3. \u00a0\u00a0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. In the black box type exit<\/strong> and the window will close.<\/li>\n
          2. Click the Start button<\/strong> again.<\/li>\n
          3. In the search box type network and sharing center <\/strong>and press enter.<\/li>\n
          4. A window will appear showing all your network connections.<\/li>\n
          5. Locate the wireless or wired connection you are using.<\/li>\n
          6. Click View Status.<\/strong><\/li>\n
          7. Another window will appear.<\/li>\n
          8. Click the Properties<\/strong> at the bottom left.<\/li>\n
          9. Another window will appear.<\/li>\n
          10. Double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP\/IPv4).<\/strong><\/li>\n
          11. Select the use the following IP Address<\/strong> so you can edit the boxes.<\/li>\n
          12. Fill in the details you wrote down earlier.<\/li>\n
          13. Click OK.<\/strong><\/li>\n
          14. Close down all the windows and restart your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            That is it, your pc now has a fixed IP address.<\/p>\n
