How Do I Rename A File Extension on My Computer

Renaming a file or its extension on your computer is fairly simple,\u00a0 just follow the instructions below.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The instructions below are for a recent windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, 7 and 8 Machine.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

First you need to find location of the file you want to rename.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Right click and select properties<\/li>\n
  2. Click the Security Tab<\/li>\n
  3. Find the object name at the top of the selected tab<\/li>\n
  4. Click in the name and either manually highlight the whole name or right click and choose select all. Once highlighted right click and select copy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Now you need to open a\u00a0 Command Prompt Window
    \n<\/strong><\/p>\n

    There are various methods to do this choose the easiest for you.<\/p>\n

    1. Click the \u201cstart button\u201d select run type cmd and press enter.<\/li>\n
    2. Click the \u201cstart button\u201d in the search box type cmd and press enter.<\/li>\n
    3. Click the \u201cstart button\u201d, Choose \u201cAll Programs\u201d, Choose \u201cAccessories\u201d, Select Command Prompt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Rename your selected file or change the Extension

      In the newly opened Command Prompt Window<\/p>\n
